Non-Traditional Work
Some people just aren’t cut out for the traditional work environment. For a number of possible reasons, some
people are drawn to running their own companies or being consultants or possibly something even more unique.
There are rules but then again, there aren’t
When looking at work outside of the traditional model, it is important to keep one thing in mind; anything is
possible. You can create something that people need or want, you can provide a service for people or animals,
you can create art, literally anything is possible. There are even T.V. shows about strange jobs that most people
have never heard of. If you can think it, it is possible. But, because there is almost always a but, there are still
rules.
Some rules concerning Non-traditional work
You must have something of value – either a product or service (if not, you won’t have any customers)
You must be able to make money – (see above – no customers=no money)
You must run it as a business – or you won’t be in business very long
If you have a family, they should all buy into the idea – Going ‘Lone Wolf’ from your family will destroy your
new fancy job and your family.
There may be more but you get the point. (If you don’t…..um, think…Traditional Work)
The possibilities are seriously endless and it can be very exciting thinking about which adventure you want to get
started with. Just make sure you are confident in your skills and are working in something that you are
passionate about.
The pros and cons:
Pros:
- It’s all you baby – You work for no one but yourself
- You can truly choose to work in whatever field you want. (see rules though)
- You can create a work life that includes working from home – More time with the family, things like that.
- You are your own boss
- You can make as much money as you can create. No set salary.
Cons:
- It’s all you baby – You work for no one but yourself. You have to make the BIG decisions
- Although you can make as much money as you can create, it will probably be slow in the beginning.
- Although you can work more home time into your schedule, when you first start it may require some long
hours.
- Generally you have to provide your own health, life, dental insurance. This can be expensive.
Working for yourself or in a non-traditional work environment can be a lot of fun and very rewarding. Again,
the key is to ensure you are working in something that you are passionate about and where you can utilize your
God-given skills.
