Coaching in General
Coaching is one of those things that a lot of people are still unsure about unless it ties directly with sports. All of us can
relate, whether we played sports or not, with the relationship between coach and team or a coach and an individual.
Clearly, the coach’s job or purpose is to help their team or student to be the best at whatever sport they are performing.
The coach gives guidance, sets objectives and measures performance while the team or student work at improving their
game based on the coaches input and motivation.
The coach is able to provide this motivation and input because they can see things from a different perspective form the
athlete. If an athlete wants to run faster, the coach can stand on the side and watch as the athlete runs. The coach can then
see the athlete’s stride, arm movement and posture and then make suggestions to the athlete based on that information.
Those are things that the athlete simply cannot see while they are running; they need someone to see those things for
them. The coach provides a viewpoint that the athlete does not have.
Of course, this does not mean the athlete will automatically be a faster runner. They must practice the techniques that
their coach has provided and be willing to make changes to get better. The coach/athlete relationship is always a two way
street.
Well, the same principles that apply to a coach/athlete relationship can also apply to our daily lives. Every day people are
moving forward in their careers or specific areas of their lives with the help of a coach. Whether you want to lose weight
and get in shape, get a handle on your finances, move to a more rewarding career or be proactive in making your marriage
the best it can be, one of the best investments you can make is an investment in the RIGHT coach.
Many people believe that they can do everything by themselves but the truth is that we were created to work with other
people. As an individual we don’t have all the answers and often times we get so caught up in our daily regularities that we
can no longer see the possibilities that are outside of our area of focus. Hiring the right coach can be a great investment in
creating a better life for you and your family.
